Working at Heights (WAH) Training Overview

Approved Provider:

Slon Construction is officially approved by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development’s Chief Prevention Officer (CPO) as meeting all Working at Heights Training Program and Provider Standards.

Program Summary:

The Working at Heights (WAH) training is a mandatory safety requirement for all construction workers in Ontario who use fall protection systems.

This course combines classroom learning with hands-on instruction to ensure participants can effectively recognize and control the hazards associated with working at heights.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Identify workplace hazards and assess the risks associated with working at heights
  • Understand regulatory requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario
  • Learn the proper use, care, and inspection of fall protection systems and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Gain practical experience in the setup and safe use of fall arrest and travel restraint systems
  • Develop safe practices for ladders, scaffolds, roofs, and elevated platforms
  • Learn emergency response and rescue procedures

Certification and Compliance:

  • Certification is valid for three (3) years and must be renewed through an approved refresher course to maintain compliance.
  • Upon successful completion, each participant receives an official Working at Heights Certificate of Completion recognized by the CPO.

General Construction Master Class Overview

The General Construction Master Class offers a comprehensive, skills-based training experience designed to enhance participants’ overall proficiency and readiness for work in the construction industry. It focuses on practical, job-related competencies and current industry standards, preparing students for a variety of construction roles.

Program Focus:

  • Core construction principles, safety awareness, and site organization
  • Hands-on training with common tools, materials, and equipment
  • Reading and interpreting construction drawings and site plans
  • Teamwork, communication, and productivity on the job site
  • Understanding of Ontario workplace regulations and safety requirements

Learning Experience:

Through a combination of classroom sessions, hands-on workshops, and on-site demonstrations, participants gain both theoretical understanding and practical skills needed for entry-level or intermediate construction positions.

Outcome:

Graduates of the General Construction Master Class will be equipped with the essential skills, safety knowledge, and practical experience to perform effectively and confidently in a wide range of construction environments.
